D16y5 Civic HX drivetrain into Integra

Hi there, brand new here...a little backround: I have owned a 1996 Civic HX 5 speed for several years...get 37-44 mpg no matter how I drive it doing math after gas fill ups. Basically the car itself is falling apart but the drivetrain is great. Finding an unmolested clean 96-98 civic hx or ex 5 speed (Id swap the drivetrain to make it an HX ) is proving to be very difficult locally....so..trying to research if anyone has swapped the HX's D16y5, trans, etc into a 96-98 Integra? Doing research on it is hurting my brain...so much b.s. , wrong information, theory, etc but noone chimes in who has actually done it with real world problems and fixes. I know the Integra weighs more, I can resolve that if need be...but if the swap doesnt require a while bunch of fab Im willing to do it...Id like to keep A/C ....Anyone done it? thanks in advance for your time, been a lurker forever

I have not seen it done. That is probably because guys want more power from swaps and you are going the other way in pursuit of fuel economy. The Integra is heavier, but some of that weight has to be modestly larger engine. Also old car curb weights are not that accurate: wikipedia does not offer diff weights for the MT and AT versions of your car, nor the 1.6L and 1.8L.

A suggestion: get an older Civic shell, like any 1992-1995 civic. Or get a diff 1996-2000 Civic shell. Your drive train mounts up easily in any of them and it has been done over and over... so you'll have experienced advice.

Thank you for your response, I actually got a phone call from a friend of mine who is very knowledgeable in Honda engine swaps and after considering everything you are absolutely correct and I am going to just get another 96-00 Civic 2 door 5 speed to swap into

Remember the wiring harness details and the ECU... if it is a simple swap you want, don't just get any 96-00. Get an HX so you have the exact harness and ECU. The LX, DX, and CX all had different harnesses from the HX. Maybe the EX was similar or the same. Check that. Nonetheless, you prolly know that you have to have the HX ECU. Good luck. Post up pics. We like pics.

[BTW: I have long wondered how feasible a 2007 Honda Fit engine swap into a 1996-2000 civic would be. That engine would be newer, smaller, and cleaner burning. The EPA ratings were 33/38 for the 5MT. It's gearing was shorter than I'd like, though. (End thread jack)]
