Exclamation Need DMV California Help!!!

Ok, so I'm moving from Mich to Cali and took the car in today to get everything switched to Cali. Well, because I didn't have a rear seat they said that I couldn't register it as a car I could only register it as a commercial vehicle!?

Anyone in Cali or dealt with this before and know a way out of this? I have no rear seat anymore, it was chucked!!!

Well, FWIW, pickup trucks are registered by default as commercial vehicles, and it's only an extra $15/year in registration weight (?) fees for my old one, but if ya really don't wanna bother go grab another seat from a junkyard. Hell, I don't think it even has to be from the vehicle, just something that looks like a back seat.

I think it depends on weight and age, so it could be more or less, but it shouldn't be a whole lot more than a non-commercial reg. You should be able to call up the DMV and ask them what the difference in yearly registration is. If ya don't wanna deal w/ it just grab a replacement seat or any old seat from a j-yard and make it look like it fits.

It has to at least look like it fits, even if it doesn't.

Is this for your assfire or the rio? If it's for the assfire, call up the DMV and ask 'em how much the difference is between commercial/non-commercial given it's sub 2,000 curb weight. If it's worthwhile to do so, meaning you'll save enough, say $20/year in registration, spend the ~$40 poking around j-yards in socal so you can find a replacement.

It is for my sweet ride Aspire. I am going to call and find the difference. I don't wanna buy something and waste my time and money. Thanks for the advice.
