is a Del Sol a good trade?

A guy wants to trade me a 94 Honda Del sol for my 2000 Gsxr 600 motorcycle, it seems to be a pretty equal trade, it has a year old viper yellow paint job, Body kit, nice rims and new tires. but for the downside it has 170,000 miles on the Engine. But I think it would be a pretty decent project car, I have a couple thousand dollars to stick into it if needed. What do you guys think, should I do the trade? also does anyone know how much it would cost to do a motor swap if needed, he claims it runs great but at that many miles it might need some work or maybe I could swap for a more fuel efficient alternative. Or maybe turn it into an Ev?

Eh, the engine should go for a while. The only downside if the ugliness and bad aero, ;).

I would bluebook both vehicles first though, even though it sounds pretty decent to me.

MrChippy -

I have grown to like the Del-Sol over the years, and some people have gotten *very* good MPG with belly-pans and other aero mods.

I can't advice on the condition of the car. SVOboy's advice is good. I would also peruse Honda CRX/Del Sol forums for details on what other people are saying.

Wouldn't this have the same engine as a 1994 Honda Civic Hatch/Sedan/Coupe?!?!?!?

A delsol could be a killer little areo car with some mods, fun too..

wonder what you could get for MPG out of them if they had say a CRX HF drive line in them?

here is a guy who got it half right with the wheel covers :)

The base model is going to give you better mileage, the SI model has a gas hungry engine, I would also be wary of any car that has after market rims...

I've always wanted a Del Sol, and then turn it into a Del Solar/EV :)

The Del Sol, Probably this deal has either taken place or disappeared but I own a Del Sol and My engine runs entirely fine(the entire car actually runs smooth) at 230K Mi.

Regarding labor, I've had to take my car in for a couple of things and its been extremely reasonable. I had to have a bolt tapped where it had rusted out(previous owner lived on the coast and incurred rust damage) and it cost under 500 bucks to tap the bolt slip in a new one and change all my brakes and pads.

I will also second the be wary of rims. When I purchased my car it had 17 inch tires that devoured my gas mileage(and their own rubber) I downgraded to 14s and my gas mileage went from mid-twenties to mid-thirties.

Also piggy-backing a semi is more comfortable in a full-seat opposed to a bike pad and causes a drastic boost in fuel economy.
