Did you meet your 2007 modding & fuel economy goals?
My 2007 list was obviously too ambitious. Bit off more than I could chew (mostly due to Project ForkenSwift).
Ah well, gives me something to do in '08. - make a permanent version of my partial Kammback ... [nope!] - ... then use it as a platform for a removable boat-tail... [nope!] - put in an XFi cam ... [yup!] - do a lowering experiment, and chop the springs if it shows promise ... [nope!] - make shaped wheel spoilers/wheel boat tails (foam/fiberglass)... [nope!] - experiment with front wheel skirts ... [nope!] - quick release wiper arms ... [nope!] - play with increased EGR ... [nope!] - toy with the idea of hybridizing the Flea - along the lines of an EV 5th wheel. ... [nope!] Just for fun, I also want to try for a 150 mpg round trip, a la Insight marathon style: low speed P&G ... [nope!] Also... get the Forkenswift on the road ... [yup!] And make a recumbent bike or trike. (Could still be a winter project.) Man, that's a lot of stuff. http://www.gassavers.org/images/smilies/eek.gif |
40mpg average. (I switched cars in the middle of the year. So I have been way under 40)
ride bike to work more (well, there is always 2008) 1800 miles on a bike (I hit that less then a month ago) |
The big thing I missed in my list was getting that spare d15z1 rebuilt. Maybe I can work on it over the winter?
Otherwise I got the others, and more things done to my car. |
Do you have somewhere you can work in the winter? I guess you could bring an engine inside if you wanted.

My garage is insulated and can be brought up to about 50°F in an hour just by body heat and a super small propane heater. So I can work out there this winter on the motor. Heck, if I just pulled in a car the heat from the motor warms the garage to about 40°F, lol.

Yes and No
Yes: I hit a 40 mpg mixed tank
No: I didn't get the aero mods set up (especially for Winter). Long Story Short, the engine block heater works great -- it gets the coolant and tranny fluid up to efficient temps early. Torque Converter engagement works great with using the EBH -- but otherwise  I would've liked a manual override (difficult) -- but tightening the throttle linkage actually gets the engine to lug at 35 mph in full lockup ;) Otherwise, the Transmission Control Unit has a mind of its own. It needs lots of warmth. Cold soaks and highway runs (read: parking at the airport) ends up with a tough engagement problem. The TCU needs :turtle: and rabbit transitions to calculate loads. I just need to take the time to fool with it  RH77 |
