Different trips

So i went on a trip last weekend and when i finished i fueled up. I averaged about 44 mpg on that trip and i usually get about 36 or so on my comute to work and back which is about 7 miles each day.

So my conclusion was that without using reverse and not having a cold engine much, I got about 20% better mileage on my long trip than a bunch of short trips. I wouldn't have thought different types of trips make such a big difference in gas mileage

You use reverse that much? I would have put it to running the engine at 80% load.

Was your trip over 200 miles? :)

Cold engines are notoriously inefficient for the first few minutes. My diesel takes 10 minutes to come up to temp. 1 long continuous trip will result in much better FE than a bunch of short trips, as you have learned from first hand experience.

My 7 mile commute kills my MPG compared to my longer travels. The first 2 miles I probably get 20mpg.

Same as my recent trip. 32mpg commuting for weeks, then one trip at 36mpg. I think it has something to do with starting/stopping too.

I get 20-22 to and from work 9mi each way and 26-28 on a longer trip say 50mi each way Im thinking its the temp and steady speed also

my trip to work is about 22 miles. to church is about 10. on the trips to work I can get a trip average of 72-76 MPG. but going to Church I can only get about 64-70. I think its due to the fact the the shorter trip is about 75% in open loop vs about 35% for the work trip.

reread my post and I didnt mean to mislead anyone, my work truck is a toyota techoma not the 99 dodge
