Helping a gorgeous young lady replace her 97 Accord oil pan.

So far she has mentioned already replacing her transmission and ball joints, but said she was having panic attacks over this. She asked to borrow my floor jack and jack stands Monday night and we realized that her ex-husband had cracked the oil pan, patched it with silicone, and when her steering system went out, it scraped off the silicone. She tried removing and replacing her silicone, but she says that she needs a new pan.

Her Accord just uses a steel pan, so she looked up the price at O'Reilly and mentioned a place called Penny Pincher in Phoenix.

O'Reilly's has one for $80.
Penny Pincher's has one for $72.
A local scrapyard has one for $50.
I paid $85 for my aluminum one from a scrapyard!

When I looked into replacing mine, I saw explanations saying that it was for the Accord or Civic, but it was the same for all Honda four-cylinder engines. I still need to do a write-up because I never found complete instructions for the Civic, and I am finding less this time, so I might do one for her Accord, too.

Unfortunately, this is the only diagram that I have found so far:

For the Civic, I found this to be far more useful!

Are there any significant changes between the Civic pan and the Accord?

Also, the diagram for the exhaust system says to replace the washers.

Could that cause an exhaust leak?

I have the honda service manual for the 95accord and its the same torque is 10lbf-ft for the nuts and bolts,tighten in three steps.

i feel cheated. i expected to actually SEE the ".....gorgeous young lady...", not a diagram of her oil pan!

I posted a picture of a friend in another thread and that was met with disapproval. Honestly, I have thought of getting a picture with her afterward, but in over two years in this forum, I have tried to minimize personal information.

So, I will not post a picture of myself, but of a young lady that I am helping?

She said that she wanted to start early, which is an extremely good idea, since the high will be 100°F. However, it is nearly 4am. I probably wanted sleep before working on her car!

Well, we started Saturday morning. It is 0407 Sunday morning and we have everything done except for the center beam, which bolts from in front of the oil pan to behind it.

Somehow, when I line up two bolts, the other two are way off.

I am afraid that I am cross-threading them, too.

Maybe you need to flip it over or maybe it was providing way more support than you are giving it credit and once it was unloaded the pieces moved?

The front skid plate to my sidekick is a real ***** and a half to reinstall. I have to install all 3 bolts finger tight, then use a power wrench to run the 4th one in at an angle. Then I snug up the other 3 and finally the last one. YOu can see from the fan its flexed, but Im not able to bend the frame to make it fit right.

Cobb, it is kind of weird, there is one big tow hook on each side, but also one on the center beam. Originally, she told me to put the jacks on the tow hooks, but then she told me to put the jack at the jack points behind the wheels and put the stands at points at each end of the cross-member (?).

I found instructions!



So, that is the center beam that will not bolt back in, and yes, maybe parts shifted, hopefully they are not permanently bent!
