Do car battery warranties ever transfer?
 

My ex-girlfriend was almost reasonable. She asked "How long ago and where and what type of warranty did you have on the battery for bacon? The battery is bad."

I had an argument on here when I stated that the best car battery usually dies after two years in the Phoenix area. I bought this one from Costco and I honestly do not know how she could have killed it. Sitting in the car and listening to the radio at a loud volume?

She probably would have had the engine running, feeling the thrill of watching the 0.00 MPG on the Ultragauge.

I told her that it was from Costco (the Kirkland brand should have given an indication) and that they offered full replacement within three years. She responded "Well that would require me having a Costco card which I don't."

That was civil and relatively mature.

Entirely stupid, though. "Will you please meet me at Costco so I can replace the battery?"

I would be unreasonable to refuse.

Costco states their car battery warranties are non-transferable.

Since 1985 and now I've never bought a car battery.

Ever.

To a new owner of the car? sometimes yes. If stated in the terms of sale.
To a new car? No.

When I take advance auto up on warranties they use my phone number to look me up. Then verify address and such, but never ask to see ID.

Looks like in your case the membership card is key. :mad:

Wasn't there a video here a while ago of some lady who bought a new car in the 1960s and then, when needed, had always bought parts with a "lifetime warranty" (batteries, exhausts etc.) and then had loads of replacements for free because she kept the same car for so long ?

I could search but I have some grass to watch dry and some paint to watch grow.

Advance auto says 1 replacement under the lifetime warranty.

I do not think that I mentioned this yet. It has been several months since I cared to hear from her. She would get upset because I would not let her know when I received her check or money order.

Trust me, if I did not receive it, she would know.

If she wrote a check, she would know when I cashed it...

Just text messages, ignoring Facebook and e-mail, in the last month, she:

Asked if I received her payment: Yes.
Asked about a personal matter: Ignored.
Asked about another car payment: Ignored.
Told me I needed to give her the car registration: I got her a duplicate in January, but sent her another.
Then she told me that she would be paying a second $10 towards her car insurance, which has cost me nearly six hundred dollars to date.
Then she happened to run into me. I continued about my business and she sent me two text messages, insulting me, cursing at me, and saying that I was immature for ignoring her.

I do not think that is how maturity works.

There has probably been at least one Facebook message for every text, plus the e-mails. I asked USAA how much it had cost me to insure her and the agent asked if she still lived with me.

"Wait, what? She never lived here."
He said they never should have insured her and they needed to remove her immediately. He eventually gave me one month to get her off of my insurance. We have a contract and I asked my attorney about it, but I hired him for much more important reasons.

Within weeks, she will not be able to legally drive my car; she will not be able to get insurance in her own name, the car is registered to me. I have not heard from her in a week and since I have not had any feedback from my lawyer, I am inclined to tell her she needs to sign a new contract, where we include reimbursement for insurance, specify that she mail her payment and that there is not any implied warranty, and I really want a clause prohibiting her from harassing me.

The curious thing is that she undoubtedly replaced my Costco battery with the cheapest one that she could find, so if I needed to replace it, it might not transfer to me!

Yeah, you got a lot of problems. I seem to have a knack for married women about twice my age. The young single ones wont touch me or even carry on a conversation.

I use to get a lot of calls to dispute insurance charges at the bank. Someones child would come home, finish or quit school and the parents got a new charge on the bank account from the insurance company. They took it upon themselves to charge extra as the child is home even if the child has their own car and own insurance. The insurance company assumes the child will drive the parents car.

When my senior mother moved in with me I got a discount and she quit driving in the 90s. :thumbup:

I wouldnt worry too much about the "cheap" battery. Its more than likely a lower capacity as they are almost all made in the same factor with different stickers. I try to get the biggest I can fit and afford myself.

Having her as a second driver is only $17.50 monthly, but the agent pointed out that I also needed to include the Bacon insurance, and that having a young driver on my policy also increased my rates, because they assume she could drive my car.

Kids these days, nobody knows how to drive a manual transmission!

So, she is physically incapable of driving my car, but they charge me extra regardless.

So, er, the battery...
