Do I need to reset AVG mpg on Ultraguage with every fill up?
Well, I calibrated my Ultragauge over four tanks of fuel and the fifth tank was pretty spot on. Within .5 mpg of what the unit reported. Excellent! Now, as the title said, my question is:
Do I need to reset the AVG miles/gallon every time in addition to holding the top button to get the Ultragauge to recognize the fill up? I didn't do it when I filled up yesterday and the AVG mpg is holding steady and hasn't changed even a tenth of a mpg, which seems strange. Thanks! |
i reset the avg mpg every fill up so i can see tank to tank changes. calibration and avg mpg are 2 different functions

No, you don't have to. I usually do, though. I sometimes won't if I'm taking a long trip, though, to see what the average is for the whole trip.

During calibration I held off resetting the average MPG, for a a few fills so I could calibrate based off of several fills. Day to day usage I reset the average as the DTE is based on that. If I have a really good tank, then the next tank do a lot of trailer pulling my tank average will be much lower than the indicated average and therefor the DTE.
If I am going on a long trip I will use the trip average. |
If you use the Fillup option on the SG II, that resets the average.

There is a trip average MPG and a general average MPG. I reset the trip average every fillup, but leave the general average alone. Trip average is on my primary screen, general average is on one of the others (that I don't look at often).
So, when I'm done filling up, I do "Reset All Trip" and "Full Fill Up", write down the trip/odo readings on the receipt, clear trip odo on the dash, and head out |
The UltraGauge has the ability to read out the fuel sensor signal (if available) and determine by itself if a fillup has occured or not. You can even customize the high and low levels that trigger this behaviour.
It can all be found in the UltraGauge manual page 35 and further. I don't use it as my Insight has this functionality too, and there is only room for 8 gauges at the same time in the UG display. You can set up 7 different screens to accomodate up to 56 gauges now, but then there won't be any time left to look what's happening on the road. ;) |
