Battery Recycling

We already have a lot of batteries - and we will have more and more batteries over time. We recycle lead acid batteries - so can we recycle lithium ion batteries?

In a word - yes.

Get everybody to quit whining about the price to recycle vs new and it might happen. With accountants running the world, don't hold your breath awaiting

It looks like more efficient lithium mining will drive the new production cost down even more and make the recycling of lithium even less attractive.
Lithium batteries are recycled. Just not for the lithium.
For example a leaf battery weighs around 640lb. Only about 11 of that is lithium and 1lb of cobalt. Recyclers will go after that 1lb of cobalt before they go for the lithium.
That's a lot of steel, aluminum and copper.
Plus how do you recycle the graphite, or coal that makes up the anode. You dont, maybe it could be burned.
