Driven 30k miles in a Chevy Bolt!

We bought a 2017 Chevy Bolt Jan 2 of 2018 and have driven over 30k. If you have questions, If you are wanting to buy an EV, I can provide answers!

Have you noticed any battery degradation?
Does it do over the air updates like Tesla?

There hasn’t been a decrease in estimated range overall, but there is definitely a lower range in winter (approx 160) than in the summer (approx 288). We usually beat the initial range estimate by driving sanely.

There have been over the air updates, we have received an email to bring the car back to dealership for a software update. It was drivable and we waited a week to also get a free tire rotation.

From what people have reported on another forum, there seems to be a 1% decrease in battery capacity every 8,000 miles.

At 32,000, 4% loss would take my best max range estimate from 312 down to approximately 300. This summer my best range estimates were 307 or 308. I could be wrong, and will be watching it more closely, especially in the winter when ranges are shorter. Thanks redpoint5.

I guess our Leaf is losing range twice that fast, about 1% per 5 thousand miles. And we don't even fast charge, ever.

The funny thing is, the Leaf still hasn't lost any value. Three years later, we could still sell it for about $11k.

We have a 2017 Bolt EV with over 38K miles on it, and I will chime in, if I can.

I can't tell is the battery has lost any capacity; and I'm pretty sure that they have designed things to not lose any, in that there is "extra" capacity, and that is enough to account for loses in the first few years.

I also have a volt pack from 2011 with 17,000 miles that I have added to an unknown previous value. I have lost about 5% capacity, but I charge to 4.12 a cell, empty sometimes at 600 amp rate, and do not use the factory BMS. I plan on 18kwh VS the factory advertised 16.

Have any of you done any aero-mods to your Bolt EVs, to try to reduce drag?

Piotrsko 02-23-2021 10:07 AM

Umm, my volt pack is in a converted Ford ranger pickup
