Dyson vacuum cleaners suck
 

I had a friend who bought a Dyson and it stopped sucking. Ask me if I could try to fix it. I Said yeah that I had heard they plug up with dirt and needed to be cleaned out with compressed air once in a while.
So that's what I did, took it apart and could see build up of fine dirt powder. I blasted away the dirt powered with compressed air and put it back together.
I couldn't resist trying it out. I wanted to see what a $500 vacuum would do because all I ever had is cheap walmart $100 to $140 vacuums.
It's got legitimate suck power. It's like a professional carpet cleaners vacuum, except it only holds like 2 cups of dirt/dog hair. It tries to pull the carpet up. If you don't have an air compressor and an air gun don't bother.
The only time I have seen a vacuum suck and beat carpet that hard was when I ran out of Kirby bags and stuck my big shop vac on the Kirbys bag hose and ran them both.
I called that the poor man's professional vacuum, 2 stages of suck power and a pretty strong brush head and 7 gallons of dirt capacity.

I'm on my 2nd V6 paid about $200 for the first one, it quit, thought was the battery $50 for china replacement still didn't work. Got a Dyson refurbished V6 for $140 looked brand new.

Ordered new Dyson motor for $65 from UK to fix the first one. Didn't know you had to tear it a part to clean. Gave that one to son for college apartment using original battery guessing almost 4 years old.

I just cleaned the second one. I just pull the filter and disassemble and rinse. Remove motor from body and rinse with water and shake and rinse some more. Reinstall filter then slip 2 1/2" shop vac hose on bottom of cyclone assembly and let run for 20 minutes sucking air backwards thru filter & cyclone assembly to dry.

Not much carpet left in the house but a cat and dog so it get used almost daily. Almost always on max speed.

My fault for burning up the first motor.

My problem has never been one of insufficient sucking, but of insufficiency frequency of use.

I bought a Roomba when I got my first house since I couldn't be bothered to vacuum. Worked out extremely well when it was just me, but once people start leaving things strewn about, robots run into problems.

Yea I used a Dyson v7 once and was astonished how well it worked considering it was battery powered. The brush works amazingly well and is probably worth the money over cheaper vacuums.

Since I don't have thick carpet making the brush head not as useful, I went and bought a cheap Amazon lookalike called "iwoly V600" that was corded (I figure more power and money savings are worth the hassle of the cord) that is rated at 600W and that thing sucked HARD, however the air filter clogged pretty quickly with finer dust. The whole cyclone vacuum thing is good at separating larger debris out but the paper filters before the fan clog quite rapidly.

I'm trying to decarpet my house.

I'm mostly using a box cutter.

When we bought our house I ripped out all the carpet and replaced it with bamboo flooring. It looks nice but now I have to sweep every 2-3 days because the carpet doesn't hide the hair and dirt.

(It is REALLY gross to see how much dirt and filth is stuck under a carpet.)

Just ordered another dyson V6 $160 to the house, wanted to try the smooth floor brush head since I have mostly laminate but area rug in living room. New head with that roller $120+ tax + ? shipping, refurbished V6 with that head and regular brush head only $40 more.

Oldest daughter just bought a house and all hard floors so I'll let her try the new one to see if she want's to order one or the older one with brush head is good enough for her.

Need to just put it on the schedule to clean them first of every month, even if it's just sucking backwards with the shop vac.
