a lot of carmakers are bringing out "eco" models of cars already in production, notably vw and seat, i'm seeing more and more polo bluemotions in the streets, and it's understandable, because they're hardly more expensive that their standard counterparts and every bit as funtional, to me they even look slightly better.

they basically apply most things us gassavers do to these cars like tweaked aero, reduced weight, taller gears, lrr tires and tweaked engine management maybe lower ride height.
, the grillblock seems to be stolen from the polo bluemotion (i'f theyd have it in black and put some riblets you wouldn't know they'd blocked the grill,but they made it a bit more obvious to deferentiate between the standard car, so ironically even when blocked the top grill is still a styling element) but it's nice to see the Cd go from 0.33 to 0.29, i don't think they could have dome much that can't be retrofitted to any comparable "standard" car. i hope this trent will continue and newer designed cars will cary over this attention to detail in the aerodynamics department.

it would be nice to see what exactly they changes they did compared to stock, most things would be easily coppied on a modest buget.

while i don't think carmakers browsed this site for inspiration and they knew how to do things right all along, i think it's partly thanks to some people showing they actually care what Cd a car has and how the gearing is laid out carmakers are finally beginning to get their act together

Its good to see more of this going on. I'd love to see the already good mileage Toyota/Hondas doing this.

maybe they already spend more attention on such details wich is why they get better milage.

ironically the more sloppy your base model is the more chance car makers have to bragg about these "special" tweaks that save gass, while of course they should have done these things in the first place.

I see allot of this kind of thing, is there any of you aero-heads on here that could transform these kind of descriptions into diagrams or post pictures of your cars?

I have an '07 Yaris sedan I want to build some stuff for.

I am just not sure if I am translating the descriptions in my head properly to 3D models.

doesn't that refer to "wheel dams" usually these are extentions of the wheel well liner that extend in front of the tire, usually on the front wheels but sometimes before the rear too. many new cars have them, quite understandable, as it usually is just a few extra inches of plastic added to the liners.

they're easy to make yourself if you don't have them, i've added them to my car and FE seemd to have improved, althoug i can't attribute it to these things alone, but theres no doubt the idea is sound!

Your Yaris should already have them, my 08 does. Its just a little piece of plastic directly in front of the rear tires on our cars. The Prius has them too. By the way, its worth noting that the Eco C'eed has the same Cd as a bone stock Yaris, .29 I wish they had some information on frontal area so I could make a better comparison.

I have been watching the Prius' closely in my neighborhood and noticed it looks like Toyota spent a little more money on aero parts on the bottom side.

I want to copy some Prius things and channel the air a little better around the wheels and under the car.

The prius does indeed come with some thought put into aero, so it's a good place to start.
