Ecomodder Holiday

What do you give and what do you want this holiday?

I'm still trying to figure out what to give... I was considering ordering a bunch of OPduino's and putting them in a nice fiberglass enclosure... But, I figured the technical expertise was a little low for those I would give to.

If the OBDuino was ready (and I could get mine to work) - I'd totally build a bunch and give away :p

I'm getting a stereo for my dad's car... He drives a Honda element (which is always over filled with tools and equipment) that has no stereo and no air conditioning (never installed from the factory)

So what do you want?
A big stack of cardboard or Coroplast?
Scangauge2?
Tools?

I've personally been eying a Space Navigator because of the modeling I've been doing lately.

What would you want that doesn't exist yet?
I want an easy way to clean the inside of my windshield :p

I have that. Carry a dead towel/blanket in trunk. Useful for many things. In this case, lay the towel over the dashboard & heater vents when you are at gas pump. Use gas pump squeegee to clean windshield insides.

Squeeze most of the water out; what does drip the towel/blanket gets. Just scrub it down, and squeegee away. What drips, is on the towel, which goes back in the trunk.

trebuchet03 -

That 3D mouse is pretty cool. Can it be used as a regular mouse?

I've been eyeing a "professional" tire guage for $35 :

Pegasus - Intercomp 2 inch Deluxe Tire Pressure Gauge, 0-60 psi
http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/Images/M/360064.JPG
Quote:

The most durable and shock resistant in the industry. Intercomp's patented internal mechanism has only four moving parts (compare to 14 or more in other gauges). Fewer moving parts means greater reliability. Thumb-operated bleeder valve on the gauge head for quick adjustments. Swivel nozzle and 17" Goodyear hose for easy access at any angle.
I want a mechanical one with a bleeder valve, not a digital one.

Hehe .. I'm asking Santa for lowering springs and Moon disk covers. Finally mods that actually save money while looking good.

Daox 12-10-2008 07:22 PM

I asked for a freeduino or two for a few projects I'm looking into.

That, is freaking amazing  I need to fuel up anyway, I am totally going to try :D If you don't mind - can I take pictures and instructabalize it?

A Scangauge II would be the ultimate Christmas gift. Try convincing the wife though ;)

Eat your heart out - it's not like it's a patented system or anything!:thumbup:

I am asking for an electronic (turn signal) flasher so I can get rid of the huge resistors I have for my LED lights.

I need that "good way to clean the windshield too", do you have another one for me?

MetroMPG 12-11-2008 10:24 AM

My dream present to receive is the same one every year: a giant, heated workspace! In the form of... Florida, perhaps.

And I wish for peace between diesel and hybrid owners. Can't we all just get along?

I'm not sure what you're asking for....That method I posted works great in Escorts and Tauruii.

Our Xmas's are in summer. I wish our Xmas's were in a cold winter with snow.
Instead, we have backyard barbeques and lagers in the sun.

Otherwise Tahiti would be cool with all those little french econocars, good FE temperatures and lifestyle.

DifferentPointofView 12-12-2008 11:09 AM

i would say either a guino or new tires... those things are horrible :)

Obviously you have no idea how dumb that statement is :D

You buy the flights and we'll trade houses for xmas

you know what they say. the grass is always greener. and you really don't know what you have until its gone... gone.. gone..

MazdaMatt 12-12-2008 02:09 PM

...Yeah... its gone every spring, then i know what i had and i'm damn glad it's gone. In fact, there's 3 inches of it on my car that i'll be clearing off when i leave work, and there's many more inches just waiting to come and make my xmas wonderfully cold and dangerous to travel.

As for xmas wishes - I'm getting a nice tool chest to put my haphazard pile of tools in :)

Why not an EBH to keep your car warm from the snow?:p

I want shoes that look like feet.

Someone gave me tire pressure monitoring valve caps a couple years ago. Good idea, but it's been a while since I ran my tires that low. The caps are set at 35 psi, and I keep my tires at 44 psi.

I'm hoping Santa brings a space blanket or two. Mylar is ~90% reflective, and I can think of a couple projects to use it on (insulating part of the engine bay for quicker warmup times, ductwork for cooler vent temperatures in summer, and possibly the roof to minimize AC use in summer).

SVOboy 12-12-2008 11:57 PM

I don't know what I'm giving, but nothing related to ecomodding, prolly just some money to charity.

As far as receiving, I think I'm getting a nice flash so I can take better indoor car show pictures for ya'll, :)

It was supposed to be like a joke but it wasn't a very good one... :(

It was like you gave your idea to him, but I wanted one too...

The only way I cab think to describe it is that with your solution, you were killing two birds with one stone. And I was asking for a second stone to kill the second bird... Except you already killed the second bird.

Make sense? :-/

I won this at the weekly car show near my house this summer:

Clean Windshields: inShieldWiper! Cleans the INSIDE of your Windshield! Auto Care Kits

It works great and makes it easy to make the looooong reach to the bottom of Wanda's windshield.

I do that waaaaay too often http://spidermouse.us/images/smilies/dunce.gif

I'm with Metro: I want a nice heated workspace. Tahiti sounds good.

As for giving, I just keep telling people to slow down. Not only for driving, but just in general. Where's everyone rushing off to? Will it not be there whenever you get there?

:thumbup:Understood. Sometimes I miss the obvious jokes.

Sorry to be a little slow to the party here but what exactly are these "duino" things of which you speak?

Pete.

Nevyn 12-15-2008 07:48 PM

They're "homebrew" devices similar to a ScanGauge in functionality - built from about $35 in parts, they tell you MPG as you drive and a few other things.
