That's kinda neat. Not sure I want another sensor yelling at me if I am knowingly drive on iffy tires though..

The fact that it can be done is cool, but it seems pretty useless for the average passenger car. As useless as I think TPMS is, at least it could actually be useful to the average person who doesn't check anything on their car. The average car needs new tires maybe every 4-6 years depending on the tires and distance traveled. Chances are, even if the owner doesn't realize their tires need replaced, someone at the dealer, quick lube, or inspection shop will notify them.

If I paid someone to change my oil and my tires were wearing low, I would expect them to try to sell me tires, or bring business to a friend who does. People neglect maintenance, although if that means they do their 3,000-mile oil change every five thousand, they should be okay. I imagine that most tires that wear out looked like they needed to be replaced five thousand miles earlier. Four months?

I thought they had built in gauges already , the wear indicator strips they have been placing between the tread grooves for the last few decades..
