There is a two day land speed racing event May 19/20 to which I want to bring "black & green" and camp in the lake bed. A small contingient of EM members to join me & friends?

This is the site where that HASport first gen Insight famously rolled at nearly 200 mph a few years ago (the driver survived remarkably well, thankfully). I was at that event with my daughter but we overslept that morning and arrived as the FD & EMTs drove up:

On a happier note, the cars are awesome aero projects. And it is one of the oldest such race sites in the USA.

I haven't been in a few decades. I'll check my schedule and see if I can drop in. I pingpong between San Diego and the IE so I'm often not too far from the Lake.

I've seen too many streamliners in pixels and none in real life.

And the Lake Bed is open! Just saw the announcement today. Good news, that.

Wish you and lots of other modders were available. We can use the dirt to observe aerodynamics through dust deposits and photos. See the LSR cars up close. Awesome star cover. $15 USD per vehicle total cost.

If you look closely, the front wheel carries dirt over the top of the tire, until it's blown back by the air. It forms exactly the shape you'd want a teardropped cycle fender to have.

There is a chance I can't go, either. Gotta have the engine together and running right. I am confident that I can do it by this weekend, but if I have made or make a costly mistake, I'll never be ready to go in a week, I bet.

That is an awesome photo. I think it instantly becomes my favorite too. Wish I have the photo tech to be able to try and make more close up action shots like this. In the past, long distance dust trail shots, showing the long wakes and their turbulence, have been my best.

"Black & Green" is running! I'm going to El Mirage. (Unless, something blows up between now and Saturday.)

Raw dump of most of the car/bike photos in low res format... gotta run to an appointment with a friend. But here is "young girl digging the bike about to race" for your Sunday. The man with her stepped aside and a woman, maybe the girls Mom took the handlebars for the pass. Announcer had "no information" and I forgot to note her speed. But she got going great.

The Hop Up T is significant because it was in the Stroker McGurk cartoons in Hop Up magazine.

Didn't see the trucks this time, but I was in motion a lot, exploring the lakebed and surrounding towns. Met a couple oldtimers, one a 200 Club member. Lots of stories. I did see the little roadster pack that I think this car was part of, though I don't remember this car. There was a different "Hop UP" roadster there that I did see... all paintless rusty metal patina. These were pretty machines, in that mad max kinda way. Snapped a pick of a few of them doing donuts in the dust, kinda like a roadster tango.
