Electric Bus = 400% mpg of Diesel
I ran across a mention, from the Bus Research and Testing Facility, Altoona, Pennsylvania, June, 2009 in which electric buses demonstrated a 400% 'fuel economy improvement' vs Diesel buses.
15-liter TDI Caterpillar engines of that time had BSFC 0.314806-pounds/brake horsepower-hour, giving the electric motor a BSFC-e 0.078701-pounds/brake horsepower-hour. Combined with one-pedal driving, and 81.1% regeneration, it will be interesting to see back-to-back road test comparisons, up-and-down the Ike Gap. With boat-tail, the Tesla Semi is looking at a 565-mile range, at 80,000-pounds, on 25-'gallons'. |
That's somewhat unsurprising. I've been saying large things that don't travel on the freeway that make frequent stops should be the first things to move hybrid/electric.
