hi there ben ..
i have to say i like what you have done on your ev bikes.
i myself have been a biker since around 88. i currently have a 91, 1200 sporty and a 83 ascot 500 that are non modded but have been drawn in by youtube and the idea of converting to electric.i see that you do direct drive by electric motor. have you ever thought about using the tranny and gears but tear off the jugs and cylinders like this
YouTube - Building VoltZilla The Electric motorcycle "forkencycle"

i got a guy who is gonna sell me a golf cart for $100 so im sure my first electric will be a direct drive on a 250-450 cc frame.Im hoping the local junk yard will have a honda rebel 250-450 with title i can use for the base.i used to love the 2 honda rebels i used to have as a teen. later i plan on trying a larger bike in the 750 to 1000 cc range using the tranny for shifting gears.nice to finally send some words your way and keep the projects going they are inspiring.

Thanks OldTech!

I did a LOL when I saw the video there you embedded. I talked to that guy a while back on the phone for about an hour. He is WAY more knowledgeable than I on all things mechanical!

It really was pretty clever how he used the transmission. It actually involved some complicated drilling and powering things from the odd ends.

His fork truck looks pretty familiar.

This is the one I took apart in my driveway this January. I always thought its motors would be good for a cycle. Glad to know somebody else is using the exact same parts!

If you are into weird projects, take a look at my http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...hread-848.html conversion.

Things are starting to get interesting.

Ben's done TONS to cover what he's done to the bike and made sure its done on the cheap.

I actually lucked out and met a company that's designing and building controllers.... and scored a motor on Surpluscenter.com for $250 (compared to the same exact motor for 700 on EV sites).

Its easy to do on a budget too.... JUMP on that golf cart now... or I will ;)
