Electric Mower idea

there have been several people who have converted mowers to electric and looks pretty straight forward. but i was thinking - could you take a brand new Corded model and convert it to Battery based?

I would think this ends up being cost prohibitave - but if i can get a brand new corded electric mower and add a battery pack ( and conversions of DC to AC) would this be an option?

I am partially concerned with my ability to properly secure the motor / blade back to the mower ( spinning blade of death and all)

This would be a more expensive option - but would only be channenging my Electrical skills ( and not mechanical skills)

Thoughts?

We were just talking about this on EcoRenovator the other day...

If the mower uses a universal motor, you don't even need to convert to AC.

Why? Why not just buy a cordless mower? I've had one for a couple of years, and it works fine.

my initial though was could you convert it for less than the price delta of the cordless models. Looking online it looks to be about a $150 price adder to go from corded to cordless. But in looking at what needs to be added - it seems like it may not really be any savings.

On the link Daox provided - someone is converting a standard (ICE) mower to electric. I will watch his progress and maybe it will inspire me to perform something simular. ( as this does not seem to have any real savings overall)

But was in interesting thought exersize....
