F1 - Imagine if they went electric?
Maybe some or even half the courses for a season.
Don't know if the quietness would leave a void. Fast battery swaps in the pits unless they can speed charge. The technology gains through intense competition and huge budgets could help accelerate the transition from ICE engine dependency. |
There was a guy a few years ago who swindled a lot of teams say he had found a way to produce ultra small ultra lightweight High capacity cells. he got free hospitality etc till the cows came home until some asked 'when' suddenly he dissapeared!
It would be a great thing to have but it would have I saw some prelim concepts for the cars that would use the above 'wondercells' basically 3/4 of the side pod would be detached and replaced - fast clip gold connections so no plugs, very similar to what I'm planning for a endurance racing project at the mo. it really would be a polaric shift and thats something F1/FOTA/FIA are normally all that good at. |
It seems to be going that way slowly.
I mean, they've brought in the KERS system, and there is a rumour that from next year there will be no fuel fill ups allowed! Next it will be proper hybrids, then electric.. by what do you think, 2020? |
there ditchin KERS next year under a 'gentlemens agreement' still technically allowed but no-one wants to spend on developing it when their trying to cut costs(+ there is no advantage at the mo) shame they limited (6sex@ X KWs per lap) it otherwise it could have made one hell of a difference :(
