F18 Hornet crash at Oceana in Va Beach
Looks like they had a catastrophic engine failure, but not sure. If the 0 fatalities holds up, it's a miracle.

I was part of an F-18 Squadron when i was active duty. So I hate it when I hear one goes down. It takes a lot for both engines to fail and it can still fly with just one. hydraulic failure would be my guess but we wont know for awhile. Since it crashed in civilian areas and had civilian damages. FAA has to be involved with the investigation.

The miracle is confirmed. No deaths, the worst injuries were released from the hospital within 24 hours (pilot and copilot-trainee). Many stories of heroism and one especially poignant interview with a retired emt who was there a long time ago when the last Navy plane went down (something like 25+ years ago).
The Navy has also started cutting checks to those who lost their homes and belongings in the fires. It still looks like a catastrophic engine failure and the pilots heroism almost cost him his life, as he waited until the last second trying to bring the plane down in the courtyard at the apartment complex where it crashed. The miracle on good Friday. God bless those Navy Boys. regards Mech |
