Farm Tracktor engine in truck gets 45mpg...

Well at least according to this guy. He also says the mustang gets 50mpg, seems the car would get quite a bit better compared to the truck, something just don't add up right in my mind..

Only thing I can think of is if he went slow, I know these engines are all about torque instead of hp, interesting idea though.

load of crap, rainbow colored variety.

Ive actually seen a forum were a good amount of people have done this. They put tractor diesels into there truck fabricate an adapter to hook them up to a normal automotive transmission and claim above 35 mpg highway. They are all about torque which is why they would be good for a conversion. I wouldn't doubt its possible

You know Henry used a basic tractor motor in his first cars and trucks. The average back then was 35mpg. :turtle:

RobertISaar 11-03-2012 06:35 PM

pretty sure they couldn't hope to achieve 50MPH back then though.

well a smaller displacement diesel would help keep the vehicle in ideal BSFC driving normally. So the truck doing better than the mustang would be explained that way by engine load.

Would be simpler and get better results with a TDI conversion, abnd the 50 MPH limit would be gone.

I don't think a TDI from like a VW would give the owner that kind of mileage this person in the video claims. For a car, yes, but a full sized truck unmodded... I just don't see it.. it would have to be able to get like 80-100mpg in a car then.

It's not so hard to reach low 20s (city) to 30MPG (highway) in a regular-cab F250 with a Cummins 4BT.

Yeah, but it would be more usable.
