Faster than their tires can safely handle
"A premature tire failure may occur on the front or steer axle" and could cause a crash, Peterbilt said in documents posted this week by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Dealers will reprogram the trucks' computers so they can't go faster than 65 mph.

I would not expect Peterbilts would come equipped with sub-standard tires. It's the trailers that get the retreads.

Less redundancy on the front axle. I saw a truck pulled over at a truck scale today with the Les Schwab (tire service) people swarming the front.
