Favorite Art - what inspires you ?

For me this morning it's anything from this site :STREET ART UTOPIA » We declare the world as our canvas

I've been a long time fan of Banksy and ElMac :

Banksy :

What does any of this have to do with ecomodding ? Well...hmmm.. art is a good way to disguise your aero mods ! ;): http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/a...22_1419262.jpg

I have since added some (painted) gap fillers to the front wheels.

OK, need more pictures of your car now. :)

Cd 04-14-2015 01:29 PM

Hmmm ...now i see why no images appear except the one of my car :

" The owner of this website (STREET ART UTOPIA » We declare the world as our canvas) does not allow hotlinking to that resource (/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/3782631801_d413a10a89_o2.jpg). "

Please explain exactly how these "artists" differ from ordinary vandals.

They don't wear knickers under their trousers.

You know this how, exactly?

On second thought, perhaps I'd rather not know the answer :-)

:-)

How street art differs from graffiti, is that street art has the potential to make a person smile, or laugh.
It has the potential to make someone think of things in a different way, or appreciate something they normally never would.

It sometimes tells a political or moral message, and all in an easy to understand image.

Grafitti is something entirely different. This type of 'graffiti' is art, but for the masses.
If Banksy did his art on canvas, only a select few would see his art, and those few would be actively searching for it.
By doing his art in public places, he reaches a mass audience, many of whom would never see his work if he had kept it private.

So how street artist differ from ordinary vandals, is by uplifting a large percentage of the population - by giving them something as simple as a smile.

Vandals, on the other hand simply are there to torment the population.

+1 I don't see street art covered up by paint, most business owners in L.A will leave good street art sprayed on their buildings.

For me it's (w/ hot-link/linkback tests):

But the thread is turning to murals.

jamesqf -- Street art murals are often commissioned. I went downtown and took this today. It's hard to get a picture of because it's 3 stories high and half a block long, and it was overcast. There are a half dozen smaller murals within a few blocks.

If the owner wants his building painted, and is even willing to pay to have it done, he's perfectly within his rights to do so. That's an entirely different thing from the sort of "street artist"/vandal who does his thing without the property owner's consent. How would you feel if it was your house or car that got 'arted'?

As to the other arguments, ordinary graffiti certainly has the potential to make some people smile & laugh, just as other people can see some 'art' as a terrible waste of good paint. Gang tagging certainly has socio-political messages, at least to its intended audience. For messages intended for a wider audience, suppose the building owner disagrees with whatever message the 'artist' has put on his building?

While it is obvious that painting anyone elses property (whether belonging to a person, company or community, or even just natural formations) is illegal, it is much less clear in the case of Reverse graffiti - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
In how far can you accuse anyone for partly cleaning your property?

I'd still think it is illegal, but it would be hard to sue the artist...

I see a vast gulf between Banksy and gang tags.

Slate ran this article that is on-point: Outings by Julien de Casabianca: Museum art transform into street art.

It advocates going into museums and taking smartphone pictures to blow up, print out and (non-destructively) paste on the "pretty, rotten" walls:

Quote:

Casabianca encourages participants to find neglected or forgotten corners of their cities to use as canvases. He says to avoid posting on public buildings, public transit, schools, hospitals, institutions, or monuments. If someone’s made the effort to paint or clean a wall, Casabianca says, participants should respect that and post elsewhere. In any case, he finds decayed, dirty walls more intriguing as a showcase for the art.
How about Electric Univese theory as abstract art?
