Favorite Art - what inspires you ?
For me this morning it's anything from this site :STREET ART UTOPIA » We declare the world as our canvas
I've been a long time fan of Banksy and ElMac : Banksy : http://www.mjoines.com/files/images/...angeles-la.jpg http://www.streetartutopia.com/wp-co...3a10a89_o2.jpg http://www.streetartutopia.com/wp-co...3a10a89_o2.jpg El Mac : http://www.streetartutopia.com/wp-co...el_mac_17.jpeg http://www.streetartutopia.com/wp-co..._el_mac_4.jpeg What does any of this have to do with ecomodding ? Well...hmmm.. art is a good way to disguise your aero mods ! ;): http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/a...22_1419262.jpg I have since added some (painted) gap fillers to the front wheels. |
OK, need more pictures of your car now. :)

Hmmm ...now i see why no images appear except the one of my car :
" The owner of this website (STREET ART UTOPIA » We declare the world as our canvas) does not allow hotlinking to that resource (/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/3782631801_d413a10a89_o2.jpg). " |
Here is one that I can link to. Cracks me up every time : http://ct.weirdnutdaily.com/ol/wn/sw...092a1015b7.jpg

On second thought, perhaps I'd rather not know the answer :-) |

How street art differs from graffiti, is that street art has the potential to make a person smile, or laugh. It has the potential to make someone think of things in a different way, or appreciate something they normally never would. It sometimes tells a political or moral message, and all in an easy to understand image. Grafitti is something entirely different. This type of 'graffiti' is art, but for the masses. If Banksy did his art on canvas, only a select few would see his art, and those few would be actively searching for it. By doing his art in public places, he reaches a mass audience, many of whom would never see his work if he had kept it private. So how street artist differ from ordinary vandals, is by uplifting a large percentage of the population - by giving them something as simple as a smile. Vandals, on the other hand simply are there to torment the population. |

For me it's (w/ hot-link/linkback tests):
Just a car guy http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--6qoGC20Gt...s1600/aerg.JPG Go Away Garage http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_P-IubETyn...55496137_n.jpg Guns, Oil, & Dirt http://41.media.tumblr.com/e234a15aa...uzyno1_400.jpg But the thread is turning to murals. jamesqf -- Street art murals are often commissioned. I went downtown and took this today. It's hard to get a picture of because it's 3 stories high and half a block long, and it was overcast. There are a half dozen smaller murals within a few blocks. http://ecomodder.com/forum/member-fr...0-100-0879.jpg http://ecomodder.com/forum/member-fr...-100-0879a.jpg /posting this from the 'Promised Land'. |
Thanks for posting the art Freeebeard.
Please do post any and all types you art you guys enjoy - this thread is not just about murals. |

As to the other arguments, ordinary graffiti certainly has the potential to make some people smile & laugh, just as other people can see some 'art' as a terrible waste of good paint. Gang tagging certainly has socio-political messages, at least to its intended audience. For messages intended for a wider audience, suppose the building owner disagrees with whatever message the 'artist' has put on his building? |
While it is obvious that painting anyone elses property (whether belonging to a person, company or community, or even just natural formations) is illegal, it is much less clear in the case of Reverse graffiti - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
In how far can you accuse anyone for partly cleaning your property? I'd still think it is illegal, but it would be hard to sue the artist... Some examples. Vermeer's girl with a pearl by Scott Wade: https://mushpamensa.files.wordpress....scott-wade.jpg Partners in grime: http://inhabitat.com/wp-content/blog...s-6_picnik.jpg A clean car: http://www.diseno-art.com/news_conte...3-graffiti.jpg Order your oranges here (sorry, no QR code): http://www.cutcompany.nl/images/voor...m353698971.jpg (This last one is not art of course - just to show how this medium crosses borders) |
I see a vast gulf between Banksy and gang tags.
Slate ran this article that is on-point: Outings by Julien de Casabianca: Museum art transform into street art. It advocates going into museums and taking smartphone pictures to blow up, print out and (non-destructively) paste on the "pretty, rotten" walls: Quote:
