People have been complaining about the site being slow. I am once again looking for a career, so actual ecomodding needs to wait, but I was hoping we could entertain each other. Here are a few memes that I found recently:

I think #1 fairly well sums up my state of mind on trying to understand #2.

Wesley Snipes as Blade, a vampire hunter.
Buffy would also be acceptable.

That didn't help. I think we just have incompatible cultural references :-(

Edward and Bella, the Jar Jar of vampires. The meme maker wanted to watch them die, which is a bit morbid.

"Jar Jar"? It's getting worse...

Haha this is hilarious. "Jar Jar Binks" was a terrible character I the new prequel Star Wars "the phantom menace".

Edward and Bella are the main characters in the "Twilight" trilogy. The movies would have been much better if Wesley Snipes ("Blade") had killed them early on instead of forcing good boyfriends (like myself) to suffer through 3 movies involving vampires that twinkle in the daylight.

"Blade" was a movie starring Wesley Snipes in the title role about a half human, half vampire that hunted vampires.

Hilarious how? As I said, it's just a case of incompatible cultural references. I don't choose to live in a culture that finds such things relevant. On the other hand, you might well be at an equal loss if presented with references from mine.

Blade IV, Edward and Bella Dead in the First Five minutes, coming to a theater near you this summer!

James, do the Amish elders know that you frequent the internet? :p

More so your responses to Xist's comments. All the sci-fi references that he thinks are common knowledge but are still a little obscure and not the parallels I'd draw while trying to describe them. Kinda reminds me of high school conversations at the cafeteria table when my sci-fi friends would talk the same way as Xist and I was left saying "I have no idea what you guys are talking about" lol.

Fat Charlie 04-02-2015 09:57 AM

It's hard to think of Star Wars as being sci-fi. It's even harder to think of episodes 1-3 as being Star Wars.

But people speaking different languages at each other is always entertaining.

Well, there's a really major cultural difference. In my world, science fiction* comes in books, which literate people actually read - and any purported SF story that included winged space fighters doing banking maneuvers, and explosions making noise in vacuum, would be fodder for the wood stove.

*And fantasy, which includes most of the non-romance vampire stuff.

I honestly can't tell if you are serious, just joking, or outright trolling...

That's splitting hairs to me as I don't care about any of it. I was just trying to help clarify. I'm going to stare at my fish tank now becuase it's the only reality TV show on cable.

I'm reading a very interesting sci-fi book called "The Martian". It's about an astronaut that gets stranded on Mars after his crew leave him behind, thinking he is dead.

There are lots of technical details included which makes such a scenario plausible and interesting to think about.

... and by read, I mean I'm listening to the audio book. I might download it on the Kindle.
