Fiat 500 Twin Air 69mpg??

Have caught wind of a new version of the Fiat 500. Anyone know anymore about this car and the supposed 69 mpg (imp) that it gets? Any chance it sells in North America?

***UPDATE****

Apologies, I repeated a search and found some information.

The fuel economy test in europe and the US are very different. It usually over states the EPA numbers by 25-30% depending on the car.

69mpg imp = 57mpg US or ~42mpg in the EPA test cycle. Still impressed? I'm not.

is mpg.....mpg....is mpg??

Thanks for the insight. Although based in Canada, I absolutely use the EPA numbers as a reference and I wish the Canadian agency ( Natural Resources ) would start using a more realistic rating. I saw the 69 mpg and thought this might be worthwhile. I continue the research. Thanks again.

...there are gallons US, gallons Imperial and Liters, and there are miles and meters.

...hence, the many differing FE numbers.

I think the 500 with the Twin Air can be ecodriven to far exceed the EPA rating; like any car. A high efficiency 875cc twin would be a wonderful place to start -- it sounds bad ass, too!

Real world fuel economy is pathetic even if you're trying to drive it economically. 37mpg US to be exact. Not worth the sacrifice.

^ What he said.

The Fiat 500 was designed to beat the system, and it did. It's also fun to drive. But it's certainly not the most economical thing out there.

I have a Fiat Punto with the Twinair engine.
It's larger and heavier than the Fiat 500 and I get 49 mpg on my commute to work (10 miles including cold start).

Welcome to ecomodder !

49 mpg or 4.8L/100km sound like a good start, given the use of the car

Thanks!

Yes 4.8 l/100 km, but I'm not sure why you mention diesel, as it does have a gasoline engine (and I'm planning on converting it, such that I can run it on LPG too).

My commute consists of highway mostly (speedlimit is 100 km/h).
(Still crossing a few traffic lights and rotarys though).
