Finally! (Paid off the car: 4 of those payments from fuel savings)

Paid off the car in just under 3.5 years and in that time, with what I learned here, I made 4 of those payments for free with the money I saved on fuel vs epa rating. I would have saved more if not running E-0 most of the time...

Thanks.

Very nice; congratulations!

Thanks.

I actually financed a car, sold the one I had before and used that money to payoff the condo. Back then mortgage interest was 10.5%.

The the wife decides that we need to move and buy another house. another 40k in debt, but it was at 7%. Paid that off in 2 years then built another house with the equity, sold it for $335k and used the gain to build the house we live in now.

Keep up the good work.

regards
Mech

That's awesome, BHarvey! Any chance you could fill us in with more details/history of it? Curious to see more written details on this.

Congratulations! I'm going to have mine paid off in 8 months, in large part due to gas I'm not putting in the tank.

That's how I'm paying for it, period. My first month the amount I saved on gas compared to driving the Xterra was $25 less than my payment.

FYI, many banks make you request the title, some charge a fee. Then once you get it they just sign it over and you got to take it to dmv and give them 10 bucks to remove the lien and put it in yo name.

Yes, good job. My bank was taking 50 a month in interest for my honda. I paid mines off early last year.

Not sure what kind of details you are looking for, but the only mods were a UG, full upper grill block, Apollo intake routed to use hot air and tires at 51 psi front and 45 psi rear. Oh, and I use PYB5w20 oil and MTL in the gearbox.
The PYB was a great boost and you can verify this on my fuel log.

I use the heater/ac as little as possible and try to never drive in the rain.
I also try not to drive the car in the dark or on weekends, using the motorcycle on weekends whenever possible.

It is a "REAL" six speed and I utilize many of the eco tips but all engine on.
Changed jobs a couple of times since buying the car and that is reflected on my fuel log.

Current trip to/from work is a 51 mile trip, go to work on Monday and come home Thursday, so (1) 102 mile trip a week with a grocery store stop in each direction close to my destination.

I drive no more than 65 mph unless a need arises to do so briefly. No drafting as I like a clear view ahead and jazz/blues helps me keep a cool head around all the 'boneheads'.

Love the fact that my lifetime ave keeps going up but 'she' needs new tires soon and while I have been contemplating which ones to buy as a replacement for the last 3.5 years, I am no closer to making a decision. No, I am not an impulsive person. I'm afraid any choice I make will kill my mpg.

I do have a set of 16" hybrid Sonata wheels to adorn her with when the time comes....
