First 500+ mile tank in the Acura

With an EPA rating of 28 highway and a 13.2 gallon tank, I didn't even this this was possible, but thanks to a great start with 250 miles of mountain highway driving (with lots of EOC) and really improving my technique on my commute, I managed a 513.3 mile tank! 513.3 miles, 12.388 gallons also set a new personal best of 41.4mpg. Three months ago I was happy on the rare occasions when I got 30 mpg on an all highway tank. Now I'd be disappointed with a 36mpg tank of city driving.

Thanks everyone for all the advice, tips, and suggestions. This hypermiling this is probably the most addictive things I've ever done with my clothes on. ...and heck, I can't even get written up for talking about it at work.

Been watching your progress since you showed up on Ecomodder. Doing good, bro!

Congrats buddy! :-)

I'm still holding on on my 500 mile tank. My goal is for 35mpg in the subaru, so I would break 500 on a full tank.

Thats pretty impressive considering your in Colorado and your temps are dropping by now! 41mpg is a great achievement, and keep up the good work!

Thanks guys. It's positive reinforcement from a bunch of guys with the same driven desire to squeeze out every possible inch out of every drop that helps me keep striving. Most of my coworkers and friends roll their eyes when I tell them my mpg, and heck, I can't say that I blame them, but having this little retreat where it matters really helps keep me motivated.

@ Sentra-R: Yep, don't think I haven't noticed your support along the way. It's much appreciated.

@ Zerohour: Many-a-times I've considered a Subaru, living in Colorado, it seems the only two options are a jeep or a 'buru. I loved my ex-wife's WRX, but the MPG was always a disappointment. In the mid-2000s when they changed the body style so they could get around the EPA MPG requirements, I lost faith. You got one of the last years before they gave up on MPG to appeal to the lead-footed American market. Good luck in your quest. Tailwinds!

We reinforce each other. I was stuck at 165-175% of EPA. After 2 years of hypermiling, I learned how to raise my game, by slowing down even more, and confirmed it with three of the best hypermilers. Now I can regularly beat 200% of EPA within 10 miles, from a cold start, in the Winter.

Ha! With my commute I can beat the EPA by 1,000% in the first 10 miles... By 10,000% in the first 8 miles. It's the next 42 miles (round trip) that kill me every time.:p

 But I do mine on level roads ;)
