Woohoo!

70 MPG (US) = 3.4 L/100 km indicated

This was for a 79 km / 49 mile one-way trip.

Conditions were decent: mild (3C / 37F), with dry roads. The key element was a 15 km/h / 9 mph quartering tail wind. I've seen multiple trips in the low to mid-60's this (mild) winter, but this was the one I've been waiting for.

Route details: max posted limit of 80 km/h / 50 mph, passing through 3 towns. Average speed of 37 mph (includes multiple stop signs/red lights), max speed of 98 km/h / 60 mph (downhill - ha!).

Driving style: driving with load within a couple of km the speed limit on the open road, EOC down a few of the steeper hills and approaching stops & turns.

This is not 70 "actual" MPG - the display was 3-4% optimistic on the last couple of fill-ups compared to pump calculations.

But it's still fun to see!

Next up: 70 MPG round trip... then a "real" 70 MPG trip (that'd be 72.8 indicated)... 75! All of which will require much warmer weather.

Hmmm... should also post this here:

Wow congratulations! Even if it isn't a "real" result it is still very impressive.

Love the mods you have done to your car, definitely looks like an Ecomachine.

You saying it's a "fake" result remindes me of one time on a drive back from Eastern Oregon. I stopped near the top of a mountain range for a viewpoint. I restarted my engine, continued on my way and didn't think much of it. Pretty soon I realized that the vast majority of the past 15 or 20 minutes of driving was downhill. Looked down at my ultragauge and its auto-resetting trip meter and saw that I was averaging almost 700 miles per gallon.

That was MY truly "fake" result, though I must say the remainder of the trip still ended up being 50 miles per gallon.

Anyway, great job. I look forward to your inevitable "real" 70 MPG post!

Haha! That would have made a great "success stories" picture!

Nice one!

I could barely keep my G1 Insights over 70 mpg . . . . I wonder what you could do in my Volt?

MetroMPG 03-06-2020 12:45 PM

Completely different driving environment, I suspect. (I\'ve driven a bit around your neck of the woods - lots more traffic... and your on-ramps are ridiculously short! :D )

I'm going to be in your neighbourhood again for a few days in April (Zephyrhills), maybe you could show me your Volt!

Sure man, stop in and check it out, I'm about fifteen minutes from there.

You'll probably want one after you drive it though

MetroMPG 03-06-2020 02:43 PM

Oh, I already know that I want one.

I love driving my friends' Prius Prime.

You may have to update your “Latest Mods” link in your signature. We need more details about the Mirage.

MetroMPG 03-10-2020 10:11 AM

Yes, thank you. My sig is ridiculously outdated - that Civic test was 4 (four) winter beaters ago!
