Driveway Opportunity Park Quandry

Hey All

Have a question. My driveway has a fairly decent slope to it - but is about 2 carlengths long. I have been EOC'ing down the block, into the driveway and up to the place where i park the car - sometimes make it all the way up - sometimes only part way up depenging on speed.

In the morning i EOC out the drive way into the street - then key start and drive off.

Pondering if it would be better to do the following...

when i come home ( hot engine) EOC just past the driveway key on and reverce up the driveway allowing me to EOC out the dirveway and key on so i can start with car moving instead of from a stop.

So i am tradeing off my EOC to a stop + cold keystart from a stop
vs
Keystart Hot and reverse up driveway + cold keystart with car already in motion.

I will set up a spreadsheet where i can log some SG data to see what is better. I have a feeling the error in readings will cause this to not be any noticable change - but with 260 work days a year - a little change could add up.

Am i killing myself with data here - or is this worth experimenting with?

Steve

I think pondering the finer details like this can be fun.

My guess is you're slightly more efficient using your current routine. Driving (reversing) the vehicle from a stop up a "decent slope" is going to use more fuel than starting it on the level street the next day to get you going after you've coasted out backwards.

initial test results are inconclusive.

I marked some points where i could consistantly start and stop this test. then begin some rudamentary data collection w/ SG.

Friday after work - ( coming home with warm engine) I reset scangage trip during EOC about 1 mile from house. i then calculated the gallons used in a "normal " home trip parking pulling into driveway.

Early Sat am - had to take daughter to swim class - so i captures the gallons used pulling out "normal" - coasting into steet then key starting and driving off. i captures the data while i was EOC - Stopped at a cross street.

So Saturday afternoon - returning home i backed up into the driveway - then this morning when i left - I pulled straight out.

Granted this is a whoppoing whole 2 data points - but so far the numbers are identical for gallons used for the same start and stop points i chose. ( 0.2 gal)

i think any savings may be in NOISE of the measurements. I will continue this week gathering data and will let you know what i find.

I do not think this is to much of a waste as i have to park and leave for work anyway - besides - it gives me something to contribute to the forum with actual data
: )
