First -Gen Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid to cease production
 

Toyota's Advance Technology division abruptly announces that they will stop making its 'Pip' model, shortest range plug-in model in the market. Toyota not aggressively investing in battery technologies and is pushing its own competitive product, hydrogen fuel cell Mirai as their next tech evolution.

Sounds like Toyota has been "sipping" too much Hydrogen "Kool-Aid"!

Toyota won't build it, Tesla can't build it, but A Guy In His Garage will.
By recycling some of the millions of electric motors Toyota has already produced (the Prius), you can build an all-electric plug-in car, the Indy One.

Now Tesla announced a 100 mile battery pack for it for $3,500. :)
Of course, Musk doesn't know that...yet.

I got to see a Mirai at the GGP. Toyota is committed to building it. Mostly in Japan though, he said something about America. The styling is meh, the interior didn't look that roomy for the cars size, you know with a giant fuel cell, hydrogen tank, and battery buffer. It looks like they've made it at a decent price which is impressive considering not to long ago that car would cost a million dollars.

But the way i see it, hydrogen is not a fuel source, it is energy storage like a battery is energy storage. You can store a lot of energy in the form of hydrogen, same as a battery. Only Hydrogen wastes much more energy, why not just use batteries?

Tesla's $3,500 10 kwh energy storage device has a peak sustained output of 3kw? That's like 4hp. Not enough power for a car, would only get about you 40 or so miles?

It would not be plunked into a car as-is, that would be nice, but it is designed to hang on a wall, and obviously, I have not actually seen one yet.
We do know something --- it uses the same cells as the cars, which are not limited to 4hp.

I loved the link to the article in which a hydrogen powered Mirai was tanked with biogas... we're talking bull here, for real.

The Mirai is no alternative for the PIP. Few can say they don't need no stinking charging socket cause they'd rather use a cattle farm and biogas unit. :p
