Fixing the Honda Civic's Parachute Problem with a Rear Belly Pan
I've been crawling around underneath Slambo, with the hope of smoothing out the tail. Started cutting up some cardboard this week, went a little nuts with the fiberglass.
Stage One: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CFuBZLeWoAAzXCg.jpg First Test Fit: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CGAx3g3UIAAISwX.jpg I will try fastening it to the bumper with knockoff/OEM body panel clips (with a little duct tape insurance). Not sure where/how to fasten the front to the trunk floor. There's one spot that looks prime for drilling. Need to get Slambo up on ramps (better yet, a lift) to find additional fastening points. Resin is a LOT less expensive if you buy it at big box home improvement stores, rather than auto part supply chain stores. |
try to run a cross brace, anchored at both ends, of aluminum, to attach it to.

Stating the obvious here, but when you get to drilling the 'pan in place, it is really easy to overlook the gas tank and screw right into it.
I came pretty close to doing that myself. Yikes ! I used self tapping metal screws to screw right into the frame of the car. |

This panel will start behind the control arms. I'm digging deejaa's cross brace idea. |
