Ford cancels 3-cyl Ecoboost Fiesta 1.0t in the States

The Fiesta with a triple is as rare as hens teeth... and they're about to get even rarer.

Sad! I haven't even tried one yet.

Quote:

... the decision to axe the 1.0-liter was “based on customer demand.”

Ford never released specific sales results for the EcoBoost Fiesta, but early on the company was pleased when the engine accounted for roughly the same percentage of Fiesta output as the ST: roughly 4 to 8 percent. A particularly high percentage of the cars were sold in California.

... Based on the ratio Ford achieved early on in its tenure, that could be fewer than 2,000 Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoosts over the course of a calendar year.
For comparison, Mitsubishi has sold 20k+ Mirages a year in the last 3 years.

One of the oddest things is that Ford never offered an automatic option. You could only get the Fiesta 1.0 with a manual, and that's pretty much a death sentence for any U.S. model.

The Focus 1.0 will still be available, though. (And you can get it with an auto.)

:(

Not like I was going to help Ford out and buy a new one tho'.

True.

Me neither.

But in 10 or 15 years when I can scoop one for a grand... look out!

Sure not having an automatic option becomes quite pointless in the U.S., and it does surprise me even more because here in Brazil the Fiesta with this engine is only available with the DCT. But anyway, probably those who would just want to follow the 3-cylinder bandwagon might have the option of that 1.5L Dragon engine (which in Brazil is already available in a simplified version for the EcoSport). Well, since the next-generation Focus is likely to be supplied to the U.S. from China, and the 1.5L limit is set there for a lower tax break, I wouldn't hold my breath for the 1.0L to remain available in the U.S. not even in the Focus.

Supposedly the "EcoSport" will get the 1.0T in the U.S.

Rumour has it the Fiesta may be dropped entirely (states).

At the Ford dealer here you get a free ford Fiesta when you buy an F150.

* while supplies last!

You can still get it in Canada... but since my 2009 Corolla automatic gets better fuel economy, I see no reason to consider it.

An eventual U.S.-spec EcoSport getting the 1.0T is no surprise at all, neither would be it replacing the Fiesta at least indirectly.

That's a shame. For new cars, it and a stripper Elantra woulda been at the top of my list. Lease only though, I'm still not sure how far I trust a turbo engine. The $1000 ecoboost anything of the future reads to me alike a money pit, akin to a $5000 Range Rover.
