ford focus 40/45mpg

its a 01 4 door
spi SOHC with the long legged manual trans and the 14" rims, its a base LX.
also its still missing the rear bumper cover...it came that way..
its original rating, http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calcu...umn=1&id=16631

A\C plug is pulled,
tires at 50,
E0 87 octane gas at all times..
about 40 miles a 600 mile tank in EOC
a brick wall of 60 mph and most of the time at 40/50

open road im pulling about 44/47
DDer route about 40 (sea level to 1,000 feet every round trip)

i say about-mpg as i have to buy E0 gas in cans and take home and put in autos...:(

not really right on math, more of a guess and buy golly.......
the car came with 1/2 a tank of E10 and it drove about 190 mile on it.
the first can fill of 1/2 of the tank went about 220

this has been a major nut behind the wheel adjustment to get these numbers...:snail::eek::snail:

I've had several different Foci (Focuses? Focus's?) and a couple Escorts over the years, and my SOHC Ford's have always done really well on e-10 to e-30. It might be worth your time to try a couple tanks of 89 e-10 just to see what/if you are actually gaining running 87 octane e-0. Around here e-10 is almost always $0.10 to $0.13 cheaper, and e-30 can run anywhere from $0.30 to $0.45 cheaper...so I'm willing to give up a mpg or 2 for an overall cheaper commute.

That is some really good economy for a Focus Sedan (assuming its not a wagon anyway). Good call on the air pressure, seemed that my '01 Sedan would roll forever in neutral, had to really plan my exits off of the highway accordingly. Keeping the revs down with that low geared 1st took some adjustment as well. Good job, and keep us posted in the future.

yea it s 4 door car model

its missing the rear bumper cover so im on the hunt for a blue one.
i have a red one on the parts focus and i may just swap it over for the time being...

ive got another one with the famous SPI valve seat failure :(:( haven't opened it up yet but it acts like the piston is no longer connected to the con rod :eek::eek:
thus the short block from the parts car is for it. as the last one i did cracked the liner top to bottom...
that one is a auto box so i don't plan on driving it much, just selling it after its fixed...

granted the parts car is a manual so i could convert it.

ran light going over with tale wind..
pulled right about 50 mpg
http://goo.gl/maps/7DK51

came back at night to limit head wind.
but with a passenger and a trunk of cargo adding near 600 lbs it was only about 40 on the way back..

so an average of 45
