Forget Politics, AGW, Peak OIL, IRAN - THIS IS SERIOUS

Split from the "Smiles" thread :

The BIG debate. FWD vs. RWD.

Or The layout of the gods vs. something cobbled together in 1902 because someone needed to put the grubby bits somewhere with the limited technology and engineering available.

An extra bonus side discussion - Why isn't the engine at the rear in most modern cars ?

also, for the bonus question, simples..if every car had a rear engine, then no-one would aspire to owning a porsche..

and it wouldnt be so easy to find the D!*Kheads in a traffic jam:rolleyes:

Unfortunately the PiP (Pratts in Porsches) tend to drive the mid-engined Cockster and wear dresses - and thats just the males. Also the 2013 911 "may" be going mid-engined... Contraversial.

I don't think we should discard the options of side or diagonal drive so early in the debate!

(Unlike the ludicrous one-corner drive!)

Indeed - any idea is welcome, including the infamous VW experiment with a rear engined, front wheel drive car. My sig-quote refers to this rather exotic beauty though

FWD with a V12 - whats not to like :D

Arragonis 01-24-2012 09:24 AM

Or how about FWD when you only have one front wheel ?

Don't forget NWD possibilities!

I love going up to Bush Gardens and getting the wife and myself in the bumper cars. Reminds me of one of them with a single front wheel. Get to bang the old gal around in public ;).

Front? Rear? 4? How about SIX wheel drive. More is better, right?

@Daox - that beetle has some emissions issues - maybe something needs cleaning out, probably the pants of the driver following just around the time that pic was taken ?

Wheels are so last week, how about fins ?
