Exciting times for F1. Lots of new tech to go boom on track. And so far, that's all the Renault-powered cars have been doing. Going boom every dozen or so laps. Guess it won't be five championships in a row for Red Bull Racing...

I think we will see huge advancements in F1 when it comes to fuel efficiency and power output with the new 2014 rules.

Cant wait for the first race in Australia.

They have to cut their fuel load by one third this season. Fuel efficiency and reliability is now the name of the game. Technologically speaking, it's exciting. But many people (including myself) are worried that this could end up being the dullest F1 season ever. Endurance racing instead of 'going as fast as possible' racing.

The turbo has a built in alternator/generator/motor to A) charge the KERS batteries, and B) spin the turbo up to reduce turbo lag.

Yes, but not as a result of competitive advantage...

It is a turbo driven generator; not the other way around. They have regenerative braking, too. The 1.6L V6's are well above 600HP *and* the KERS is 160BHP for 31s per lap (up from 80BHP for 8s). I believe they are limited to 100L of fuel per race?

I am looking forward to this season.
