I noticed my Gone With the Wind thread only got 4 views in 4 hours so I checked the stats on the main page: Currently Active Users: 534 (1 members and 533 guests). That's half or less the usual lurkers.
22 members in the last 24 hours, with three posters.

I visit less because it takes about 5 minutes to load each thread.
You would think with high fuel prices (we are back over $4, 50 cents in under a week)
That there would be more on topic but with the very slow forum and the inability of sub 35 year olds to leave discord and app land most forums are dying off again.

I was going to start a new thread, but I can weave this in here.
Uncle Tony's Garage has been responding to Julia James Davis and her videos on Analog Resistance
Pick Your Level Of Pain
Their premise is that the mind control has broken, and people want a 'forever car'. He scopes it to the 1950s through the 1980s, and uses automatic transmission controls as his example.
So long term things may pick up again. Barring, of course, Canada passing C-22.

My gauge of site popularity is the lurkers listed on the main page. I've seen it go from 300 to 6000 to (currently) 533, although I haven't associated traffic to latency.

$4/gallon is like $3/gallon 5 years ago, and less than 2022. It's still fairly cheap.

Fuel efficiency is a subset of ecomodding. Conservation is more meaningful measured in BTUs.
Promote the Analog Resistance.

Yes much cheaper via inflation than the $4-$5 gas and diesel we had in 2008 but in this region mode/median wages are generally not much different now than then. (K shaped economy in urban areas with rural rot everywhere else, several of my friends have had income go up and down and are basically back at the same pay they had in 2008 (my moms income has dropped similar to 1998 now)
the type of jobs available are very mediocre and require intense effort to get.
I would say move but most areas cost way more (gas is around $7 near the coast east or west) and have a lot of contract and gig jobs that basically pay nothing.

Anecdotally, it seems any job where people do things is demanding a premium. My local McDonalds has $20 starting. That is inflation.
The middle class and anyone with cash were hollowed out with inflation, while the entry/labor class wages skyrocketed.
I'm part of the middle class that suffered a loss. I certainly haven't had a 30% pay increase over the past 5 years just to maintain purchasing parity.

I dropped into a vacant apartment for rent, just to see. Three room plus a bath on ground level -- twice as much as what I pay currently, with no parking. There are high rise 'low-income' barracks going up behind my credit union, they will be four times as much. Whichever way I turn is uphill economically. My neighbor is going to eat a month's rent to move inside the park. But it's the best spot, an outside corner with a very auspicious (but undisclosed) number.
In other news, I only buy a $25 tank of gas a quarter when the cars are insured; but I consider my own fuel and track my groceries monthly. Up 20% year-over-year. The FUV I estimate consumes $1 every three or four days, so $2/week or $8/month. About the same as the Metro XFi, but I go a lot more places.
