I tried figuring how to do that kind of thing in the town where I live now. I'd have to move because the rental market is actually much cheaper than the mortgage market.

I was looking at a duplex for sale, but the current tenant in one half was paying about 1/4 what the total monthly mortgage payment would have been.

If you have your heart set on buying a piece of property here, it would actually be cheaper to get a single-family sized unit to put only you and your family in than to try to buy something to rent part or all of it out.

And, at the moment, it's even better financial advice here to just rent and use the money you're saving from not having a mortgage in an index fund or similar investment.

I rented rooms in my house for about ten years. Maybe ten or twenty strangers cycled through there in that time. Then I was a recluse for ten years.

Then I rented a duplex because the back half was a geodesic dome (with a fenced quarter acre yard). Every time the other half turned over, I had to eat the unpaid electric bills, etc. I've be reclusive since.

In six years Social Security takes a 22% hair cut. In those six years my rent will have gone up twice that. It doesn't sound sustainable.

Are there any realistic plans to fix the issues here? Almost unusable for me lately - takes several minutes to load pages and I've given up attempts to update my fuel fills as it's pot luck whether the form submits.

So it's not just me?

The landing page loads easily, but the forum and subforums hit a wall. I've tried to send an email message to aerohead for a month without success. He appears in a month old (Dave Gilkison?) video I failed to book mark.

But at least I know he's still above ground.
