Frogs Singing In The Pond
Love this time of year. Frogs come out and start maiting in the pond. Already have frog eggs. Soon, tadpoles. Doesn't draw much amps to run and provides a habitat for all kinds of things. Just installed another pump and a UV / Bio filter for it today. Get a lot of birds, squirrels, frogs and even the occational turtle stopping by.

Kids and wife took some of the frog eggs and placed them in the aquarium while I was at work a week ago. Already have tadpoles swimming everywhere in the aquarium. Wasn't sure if they'd live inside. They not only lived but got bigger much faster than outside due to the temp. All those black specs in the vid are tadpoles. Been to cold outside for the ones in the pond to hatch yet. Get's warm, but then the temp drops off. Was warm and wet last night, had the choir singing again in the pond. Like last night, was in the low 70s but today it's mid 40's.

Grown up tadpoles
I realize the last post in this thread is over two months old but I just have to know. Did the tadpoles survive, thrive and mature? I can sort of imagine a large "hoppy" event at some point.:)

Still have a few frogs in the 55 gallon aquarium. They're really small though. Feed them every few days. Put some out in the large pond. Most in the pond were eaten by the fish, but a few always survive. Every year there are more frogs showing up : ) The "hoppy" event always happens @ 10-11pm the first wet to moist night it reaches about 75* with the waterfall turned on. They're all over the yard making a dash for the pond. They'll pair up and mate. The lonely few will sit up on the rocks singing the night away.

It's awsome to hear 3 or 4 chirping in unison. That's when I know spring has arrived and summer will be here soon. One of my favorite times of the year.

Agreed on amphibians. We can be overwhelmed by tree frogs some years.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gr...rogRaleigh.jpg The "first day of summer" in Texas is when one first hears a cicada (generally a week or more prior to June 21st). |
