front scoops on aventador and others

ok so u know those big black air scoops on the front of the aventador, what are they for?
the engine including radiators are in the back so could they possibly be scooping air for? if they arent scooping air then what are they doing?

this is a link to an aventador from google images

i can understand the side scoops behind the doors channeling air in to the engine bay but what possible use could there be for scooping it at the front?!?
thanks

Looks, aesthetics, aggressive stance, etc.

Brake cooling?

Timing is everything! LOL

So the driver and passenger can stretch their legs out?

Flintstones braking ducts.

Lamborghini Aventador: the design - Car Body Design

"In the front end we find a trademark design element: the double air openings which provide cool air to the brakes.

The other cold air intake is connected to the power steering radiator."

front ducts

The new Hurac'a'n does the same thing.
It is an all wheel drive,so some of the air may be for front differential cooling as well.

The new Corvette uses a single inlet duct, then directs the air internally with ducting for the forebody bits.
At Cd 0.29 vs Cd 0.36 for the Lambo.,it's a lot better engineering.(maybe not quite as sexy)

thanks

how can you have a pencil racing strip on such a bad ass car????/:confused:

Whatever they may actually be doing there, that's prime real estate for managing airflow in the front wheel-wells, one of the most problematic areas on a car.

arklan 11-25-2015 04:51 AM

i spoke to a fellow today who said they scoop the air at the front and channel it up to outlits up at the windscreen, this creates downforce at the front and helps to push the air over the car when it hits the windscreen.

seems kind of counter intuitive for a car to go fast, but he said the lambo is designed for downforce rather than top speed like the veyron which also sounds legit.

the brakes must get pretty damn hot then :o

It might also have something to do with downforce, but I'm not sure if it would be worth to channel the air up to the windscreen.

downforce/top speed

Top speed can be a bragging right, but not so much if the customers are killing themselves in the car.
Here, the Countach shows it's dirty but stable form.

You really pay for the draggy wings
http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...d2/06-2823.jpg
The Aventador loses the rear wing of the Countach for a 40 count drag reduction, but they're all over the road on track.

The Veyron ' begins' a bit cleaner than the Lamborghini
http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...ntitled3_2.jpg
As velocity builds ir becomes dirtier to maintain stabilty
http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...ntitled2_2.jpg
At 268 mph,Volkswagen doesn't want their rich clients dead in their car,so the Veyron gets really dirty

The flow ends up pretty hideous, but at least the driver lives to see another day

I can see the vents at the base of the windshield. It makes sense to me. Massive amounts of air in at the stagnation point and a smaller vent at the base of the A-pillar.
The converging duct means the air out of the vents is moving faster and pulls any high pressure at the base of the windshield sideways.

As opposed to using the air for an air curtain over the wheelwell opening. The flow for brake cooling is just a plus.

Aventador nose

The July,2013 MOTOR TREND had a small article about the Lambo on pg. 18.
They said the 'new nose and tail' improved aerodynamic efficiency by 50%,high-speed stability, and engine cooling.
