Not so Insightful

New here, been driving a 2000 Insight, second owner, for 110,000 in the desert/mountain SW the last 9 years. Car now has 140,000. Out of warranty IMA light now showing, and to top that off, got rear-ended this weekend by an uninsured motorist. Car only with liability, no comprehensive. The bottom line: thinking of going to a newer used, subcompact. Any experience with the Ford Fiesta? Any experience with the Prius batteries vs. Insight? Any suggestions for a 5k solution? Anyone interested in resuscitating my Insight? Thanks for your input.

Comprehensive does not cover uninsured motorists in Virginia. On my policy the uninsured motorist is a separate payment. I know this because the uninsured motorist part of my motorcycle policy is more than all the rest combined, almost 60% of the total premium.
Check to make sure you do not have an uninsured motorist part on your policy. There may still be hope for some insurance payment?

Mech

How "Totalled" is the Insight?

I may be interested. If you can post pictures, it would be a help. PM me if you would feel better with an email.

Thanks,
Rusty.

Hi Rusty,
I'm not sure what PM means, sorry, new to this, but I could post one on the for sale forum in a few days. Suffice it to say it's identical to the green one on the Insight forum. The rear end damage is just cracked along the rear bumper panel, both sides of the license plate. Body estimate is $750 to replace the panel and paint the damage. $2200 from Honda for reconditioned batteries, plus about $250 to install. I'm located in the SW corner of Colorado, Four Corners area. The vehicle is sound, probably could drive it to San Diego. None of the rear end damage affects driving. I'm still driving it here, just don't know what to expect of the batteries.
