What are you using for a fuel log?
Is there one you use to download?
What all do you keep track of on your logs?
I have been keeping track of altitude, temp, AC on or off, wind (approx) time and any notes that may have hapened during the test run.
I have been having a hard time getting any consistancy or reliable results. If they are not consistant or predictable I do not consider them very reliable. I might get 39 MPG at a certain temp and altitude and on the return trip at the same speed only get 30?? Same thing later and get different results? Any ideas?

intake leak maybe what do you have for a car to start with.

I use ecomodder's garage for my log, of course! If there are any additional variables I write them into the notes field.

As you mention, its hard to get consistency. There is even a fair amount of variance in day to day commutes if you track things daily going to and from the exact same place. That is about the most consistent scenario too! However, 9 mpg difference is quite drastic. Can you describe your example trip a bit further?

The car is a 2008 HHR Chevy with the 2.2 motor.
Mods:
1. lowered
2. Airiad intake filter
3. Complete 2.4 Exhaust system with a Cherry Bomb Vortex muffler
4. 2.4 intake manifold
5. Solstice wheels and tires. 10% taller than stock wheels

future mods are Trifecta tune and underdrive pulley.

There is no intake leak. For a baseline the mileage is
37 MPG @ 60
35 MPG @ 65
31 MPG @ 70
29.9 MPG @ 75
29.1 MPG @ 80

Those are with Air Conditioning on high.

I use the gas receipt to jot down miles traveled and ave MPH. Since I drive to work at 2:30 am and come home at noon, I don't log my temperature. I do duplicate that tank's notes on all 3 websites.

Wind makes a HUGE difference in MPG. Quality of gas. How you place the nozzle in the fill hose. How full you fill the tank. How fast you drive. Outside air temperature and weather conditions. All variables of course. Best thing is just to log ALL your MPG results - they will average out over time.

AFA tracking mileage, I use Excel, I'm putting on 30K a year so I'm making an entry at least once a week. I write the mileage on the receipt from the pump (in pencil, as pens freeze up) and then make the entry in the SS when I get to home/work. Pain in the a** to do the fueling cycle this time of year, just too cold /snowy / dark.

That my story and I'm sticking to it.

I keep an OpenOffice spreadsheet, as well as the Ecomodder logs for my mileage figures. My tires are 2% taller than stock, so I enter m y receipts in the spreadsheet first, then use the corrected mileage on this site.

As far as consistency goes, you really need to pay close attention to your driving style. I don't know if you have different seasonal gas formulations in the third-world hellhole that is Texas, but up here in the North, I was getting a consistent 38mpg in August, where trying to drive the same is getting me 30mpg in December. The differences here are colder, more damp weather, and a different gas formulation. It takes a while to establish patterns, so be patient.
