They extended the boat tail right up to the nose :)

Funny, the next thread that showed up in Recent Posts was "Going the wrong way."

What really makes sense is instead of grafting a VW bus onto the top of your school bus, find a sailboat with a stove-in hull and scavenge the top deck. The decks of boats have evolved over 1000s of years to be useful out in the weather.

Nice waves. You could take it further, and un-step a mast when you're out from under power lines and overpasses. It would be a hybrid.

I'm more impressed that the bus was made into a woodie.

Years ago I was stopped at a light in D.C., looked over, and saw a boat stopped next to me. It was some amphibious thing with six wheels, but how often do you see boats driving down the road?

So all I could think about when you said "some amphibious thing with six wheels" was the Dobbertin "Surface orbiter."

I apologize if this is too off-topic, but it does float and is an amphibious thing with six wheels.

I liked it best when it was all blue and white. Here's one that has better detailing around the windshield:

(Needs more taper in plan)

Great pictures. I have seen the latter in the Louwman Museum in The Hague, probably the most amazing car museum in the world. It is a Fiat-based designer one-off and does not float.

Aerodynamics is a very complex field and if you apply a perfectly good principle slightly wrong, you destroy the whole effect you were trying to create.

Fat Charlie -- Did you find the picture, or were you able to walk around that thing? Are there no tires on those rims?

It looks like where they went wrong is in not making the pontoons trailerable, with twin outboards on the ends of the pontoons. Then they would have a roll-on/roll-off dry dock that weighs less overall for towing purposes. People just don't think things through... :)

Found it on the net. What I was looking for was something I'd seen years ago on the net, a Lebaron convertible with a hull fitted to it, driving on the highway. It was really well done.

The things I've found when looking for something else on Internet...

A boat tail for a pickup truck? Easy!

If only the boat was turned upside down?

And put it up on a hard tonneau but leave the bow pointed out back.
