Cheap 2018 Cars with High MPGs - Which Would You Mod?

I've been thinking about swapping out of my '99 Civic HX into something more modern. Sadly, Ford isn't putting the 1.0L EcoBoost (one of my favorite engines in the entire world) into the Fiesta in 2018 and they're only offering it in the Focus and EcoSport with an automatic.

I've been looking for a CPO 1.0L manual Fiesta, but they're rare.

Here's a list of likely suspects. Many of my faves aren't on it …

First one to guess my fave *on* the list gets an MPGomatic sticker.

I haven't been in the new Rio yet, but I have one on the schedule. Hearing good things about it.

Well no sticker for me lol... if I were buying a new car, I’d be inclined to go with either the Spark or Mirage... however I don’t like the look of the black cladding on the 18 Spark, so I’d go with a 16-17 model... I have to have a manual, I’d rather replace a $2-300 clutch than a $2-3k transmission, and most of the new cars use CVTs anymore...😡

Price considering along with MPG I think the redesigned Accent looks like the most car, that gets the best MPG, for anywhere near the price. Some of those $20k cars don't seem much better and the $13k cars are downright crappy in comparison.

"The Accent sedan comes standard with air conditioning, a 5.0-inch touchscreen audio system, remote keyless entry, and power windows, mirrors, and locks. This year, Hyundai tossed in cruise control and Bluetooth, too;"

"Working the SE’s six-speed manual, it almost feels as though Hyundai committed its own theft from Mazda. This is the best manual transmission Hyundai has served up yet, with crisp gear engagement and a well-weighted clutch pedal with a defined takeup point."

Oh wait, it looks like you epa numbers are off. Still it looks good, just not a mpg king especially around town. Should be 28 city 38 highway and 32 combined. The Rio is wrong as well or are those your ratings not EPA?

Does the Honda Fit count? Seems to have the highest MPG as well as the greatest versatility of the compact/subcompact class. And also classier than a Mirage.

I like the looks of the Fit, but I didn’t see a manual trans as an option, and if I buy a “new” car I’d expect it to last a long time, and my experience with CVTs is that they don’t... granted, the Altima I had was used, but it wasn’t long at all before it’s transmission showed early signs of failure, with the belt slipping badly taking off on certain hills...

The Honda Fit can come as a manual. Plus it's a Honda, and Toyotas & Hondas are known for their longevity.

No argument about that... that being said, it’s usually the Chevy and the Mitsu that come up with the biggest rebates... a dealer near me was advertising 16 Mirages for $8999 a couple months ago... new but unsold stock from last year... I couldn’t do it but it was tempting, given the results on this forum with that car... 78bhp sounds horrible, but my first vehicle was a Ford Ranger with a carbureted four cyl engine making less power, and weighing 2800#

True, and I suppose a Mirage wouldn't be that bad for most of us since we're used to "older" cars. Personally though I'll still go with the Fit next decade due to the brand's superior reliability. I haven't heard too many good things about the reliability of Mirages.
