Smile Introduction

Greetings all!

I work in the aviation field. Was a mechanic for 20 years. Now I just push paper around.

I own a small laundromat and do all my own maintenance. I put those mechanic skills to use and now I have a few motels and laundromats as regular customers.

I drive a '99 Nissan Pathfinder. It's a teenager taxi and work truck. I haul a 10ft trailer about with washing machines on it usually (or lawnmower in the warm season.)

I've been wanting to convert a standard car to an electric, but with three teenagers in braces, the monies are already spoken for.

BUT, I did see a Commutacar on the side of the highway recently. It is really rundown, so it might make a good project. It will fill several criteria.
  1. It might be cheaper than converting a standard car.
  2. It will meet the criteria for range. (I drive five miles to work.)
  3. Provide some male bonding time with my three teenage boys.

If you are fit enough for moving appliances, you can probably use a bicycle to commute without much fatigue, and save lots of time overall. A helmet-mounted mirror and some practise are the keys to safety in traffic.

Welcome to the site. All the guys using commutacars seem to love them. I'm sure one or two will pipe up.

I like mine, it's not built for speed and a solid state controller is a good upgrade, altho mine is one of the few I've seen that is near completely stock, the body is not easily repaired but is simple so building new panels is possible, everything else is simple and cheap if it needs to be replaced.
