Garage Yields +2mpg
 

So I parked in the garage last night so I could work on my car without freezing. I was curious to see how big the mpg gain would be from keeping it in the garage overnight. It was 55 degrees in the garage compared to 22 outside this morning. I normally get 24mpg on my 10 mile morning commute. 26mpg this morning!! If only I could park in the garage every night:rolleyes:

All the more reason to install a block/coolant/oil/trans heater. I've got mine planned for this summer. Next winter will be toasty!

Dude, don't hesitate or wait until next winter... Do it ASAP, you'll be very glad you did.

I started garaging my vehicle a few weeks ago in an unheated garage. In the morning, my car is consistently a few degrees warmer than the outdoor ambient temperature, and I no longer have to worry about frontal area increases from snow and ice deposits.

The garage makes winter a little more predicable and smooth, and I can work on the car whenever I want, instead of only as weather permits. Plus, come spring, it'll be a place for me to plug in my car.

If the garage is that much warmer than the outdoor temperature, you're losing a lot of heat from your house to the garage.

Your house could be just that much easier to keep warm if you improve the insulation on the shared wall and seal the interior door better.

Sure, your gas mileage may go down again-- but your gas (or electric) bill will ALSO go down (and think of the savings in the summer when your garage heats up the house).

You could always install a block heater and use it on a timer, so whether you park in the garage or not, your engine will be preheated.
