Gas price & story

Good day,

Here is my story follow by my “Price of gas complaint”

Last month, I went to a sport tournament in a small town at 150km from home. Over there I talked to some friends of friends. First time I see them, very nice guy. During the day we talked about a lot of thing, among them we talked about the price of gas, how it’s more expensive than ever. At the end of the day, we went to a restaurant. In the parking lot, they saw my car with the grill block (in summer) and the flat wheel cap. They start to laughs at my car, they where close to be arrogant. Most of them drive dodge Ram or F-150. They were unable to understand the reason behind those modifications. I took the time to explain them that those mods were to make my engine more efficient. One of them answers “So that grill block make your engine more powerful? Uh!“ At this point I had to explain the difference between efficiency and effectiveness. At the end of the meal, they seem to understand clearly the reason of the mods, but were still finding it silly.

That day left me an impression that people should be more involve in gas saving. Sadly the only motivation that work is the $$$

In conclusion, I think that the price of gas is just too low. Those guy would be more impress by my 6.1 L/100km if the gas was 5$/L. I’m living in Canada; the best selling vehicle in Canada is the F-150. Something is wrong. I’m trying to save gas an I look like the weirdo for that reason. It should be the opposite. The guy in his F-150 that put a hard cover on the bed because he doesn’t even use his pick-up truck to carry stuff should be considered the weirdo.

I’m asking you, have you ever been in a similar situation.

So the Canadian rednecks are just like the Duhmerican ones. Shame.

Don't you know that fuel costs are just like sports and the weather?

(Topics for discussion, but things you are not supposed to do anything about.)

(Others in the same category: politics, personal finances etc. etc.)

On a related note, someone at the gas pumps asked me about ethanol and I told them that discussing it was much the same as discussing religion or politics. It only took another minute of conversation to prove that was true.

I hear you, modproductions.

And gas prices in Canada just touched (or were just below) the all time record. Around $1.37/L or $5.20 US / gal. Probably even more expensive in la belle province.

That's true.

So is that! (For the average person.)

In the last month I drove right at 1500 miles on $108.12 in fuel. About 650 miles was on my 20 year old bike at 5 cents a mile. Of that total mileage probably 30-40% was avoidable. 200 of it was in the truck to cut the grass at a house I had to foreclose on and now it is rented to a responsible person so I don't have to cut the grass anymore.

150 miles was to pick up my newly purchased 89 Suzuki GS500E. That's 350 of the 437 miles I put on the truck at 10 cents a mile. The truck may sit for close to two months before I refill again.

I filled the Fiesta Monday when I went to the doctor for a physical. Last tank was 48.03 MPG. We are going to Ocean City this weekend for a vacation. That will use most of the tank of fuel in the Fiesta.

Should be close to or just over 50 MPG on this trip to the beach.

If your "friends" want to jibe you about fuel mileage, just ask them what they spent to travel 1500 miles. In a F150 it would have been right at 100 gallons or $341.90 compared to my $108 (local prices).

Take $233 a month for 30 years and it adds up to $83,880. Wisely invested over that time it would buy you a decent retirement or a nice house.

regards
Mech

Sorry, that won't work. It requires the ability to set aside instant gratification for a moment and ponder the bigger picture, and that is asking far too much.

Just wait a few years.

Sadly Frank Lee point out what reality is.
Those guy not only don't care about consuming more gas, they prefer paying 2 or 3 time the price of a small car just to be in a puck-up truck and be able to say "I have 300+ HP, what about you"
Instant gratification of a big thing

The price of gas is rising since the begining of cars, A few years will not raise the price enough to make them understand anything.

Thank you guy to share your storys.
