Hey all,

I am a Train Driver with Queensland Rail for the last 23 years .

I have been interested in alternative fuels and motors for many years and have posted many vids on youtube under the name of gregted1 on hydrogen fuel cells.

I have researched magnet motors, overbalanced wheels and of course hydrogen fuel cells.

I currently own a 1989 Yamaha FJ 1200, a 1980 Suzuki DX 100 ( the wifes ), a 1984 Nissan 720 ute, a 2001 Nissan Maxima, and am restoring a 1928 65 series Chrysler.

I would like to modify a small road bike to run on battery power only.

I've seen the vids on youtube and visited other sites. The only problem I may have is I do not have access to a power point at work so the bike would have to travel about 30 kms round trip before a recharge.

I have to read more about regen braking but so far seems to only return about 10 to 15 percent.

Anyway thats me. Hope to hear from some of you soon.

That's a fairly long range for the bike with no place to charge up. Do you plan on doing any pedaling yourself?

On a serious note :turtle:

Is there a way to fit another gear for highway use or can I simply change the gearing to have lower top end, hence less revs but more range?

Does lower gearing mean less load on the motor hence more battery time?

I could live with lower speed if that meant longer range and no fuel...

I noticed most bikes are 48 volt. Is this optimal power versus weight?

I also like the idea of charging up from a bank of batteries that have been charged from a home solar panel.

If this is possible, do I need twice as many batteries with stored power to charge the batteries on the bike?

So many questions, so little time.
