Geo Metro transmission question - what's under this cover?
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/m...up-4cyl.th.jpg
What's under the stamped steel black cover on the very end of the transmission? (right side of this photo, above the transmission mount - click to zoom). I think it might be the 5th gear set. But I'm not sure. Reason I ask: might there be something in there that could be an attachment point for an electric motor? (I'm always thinking about DIY hybridization of the gas Firefly.) Best case scenario: underneath there is the "other" end of the input shaft, and somehow you could mate a cog to it which could then be belt- or chain-driven by an electric motor (holding the clutch in, to keep from spinning the ICE). |
The 5th gear is in there. Clever idea.

Ah, OK. Thanks John!
(PS. Looking forward to the return to regularly scheduled programming on your mini-car build thread @ teamswift.) |

is it possible to see the photos with firefox?

You mean the photo linked in post #1? I'm seeing it in Firefox.

Oh - if you mean the pics in John's build thread @ teamswift, I think you need to be registered to view them in the thread.

You shouldn't need to be registered to view them in the thread.
I loged out and I could see them. And I use firefox. john:) |
For those following this thread, AXMonster has already begun looking into this exact question on his car: Home made hybrid (using access to 5th gear on FWD transaxle)
