Getting an 02 Ford Focus ZX3 with a bad Tranny for free

Hi,

I am getting a Ford Focus ZX3 with a bad tranny for free. I am appauled at the Focus ZX3's cd of .036 for this generation though.

Any idea on how to cut down on drag without adding a boat tail?

I might send off my MTX75 off somewhere to have a 3.41 final drive put in along with the ~.67 European Diesel 5th gear so gearing should be absolutely awesome for FE but just worried about the terrible cd on the car.

Anyone know anything about these cars? There is such little support for ecomodding these vehicles that I might not take it even for free.

Thoughts?

Thank you

CD isn't everything, engine efficiency, driving style and gearing play an important part also. What about a kamback?

What mileage expectations do you have. What do you drive now. Do you do your own repairs? While you could do that it might be much cheaper just replace the transmission with stock. I believe I read some were the MTX transmission 5th gear is external to the case and might be easily upgraded.

Pump up the tires, add a grill block, maybe an air dam and "adjusting the nut behind the wheel" (driving style), you should be able to beat the EPA. Instrumentation with the ability to show instant fuel mileage will go a long way to reducing fuel usage.

While the model specific information may be minimal the concepts work well. Maybe you could be the ecomodder champion for that model.
