Getting it going :(

Hi folks.

I have made a freeduino board V 1.16 with an ATmega 328, powered it up OK, runs the blink code OK, had latest code arduino 0022. Made the other chunk, with a 2 line display, three buttons etc.

Downloaded latest mpguino.pde code, loaded the freeduino, backlight comes on, pushing middle button improves contrast, I have complete blocks of dots, and no characters, no messages, nuffink.

So, a few questions...
I saw I may need to use old Arduino code version 0011, is this true?
I've downloaded version 0011, it installs happily but doesn't run, so do I need to completely remove later versions? There are some disconnected data pins on the display, do these need tying one way or another?

The complete system should power up without VSS or injector signals I assume? On the off chance that this springs into life at some point....

I have low impedance injectors, is there a consensus on the best route to filter these signals? I will try to hook up a scope to see whats going on...

Is there a laptop application running over USB which takes data from the installed mpguino and displays useful data, or graphs it?

Anything else I should be pointed at, and made aware of..?

cheers
Russell

Got it going :)

Ok, I can answer a few of my own questions now. It lives, so I'm ridiculously happy. :)

Why didn't it work?
It was a printing, wiring error. My printer ran out of blue ink, and missed one connection off the circuit diagram that I had printed out. Since this was D4, it was pretty important, and without it you just get blocks.

Does it work with the latest Arduino IDE 0022?
Yes, I think it does, though I haven't installed mine yet. Presumably code space is tight with the ATmega125, and not with the 328. This should be documented somewhere obvious..?

The disconnected pins, D0,D1,D2 and D3 should be left disconnected.

The system doesn't need VSS or INJ inputs to work, ie display stuff.
